Rules and Guidelines

The Tennessee Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO) recognizes that college fairs provide a chance for high school and community college students to learn about different educational opportunities and a chance for higher education institutions to reach as many students as possible. The purpose of the TACRAO Articles of Good Practice and Ethical Standards is to ensure that students receive accurate information and that all higher education institutions have a fair and equal chance to communicate with students. These guidelines are supported by AACRAO and NACAC. Any organization participating in TACRAO sanctioned events is expected to abide by the following guidelines.

  •  Maintain a professional manner with both students and colleagues, reflecting the dignity of their profession and the institutions/bodies they represent;

  • Organizations may not be accommodated by Host institutions if they failed to RSVP to the event or were not invited by the Host institution. Host institutions have the discretion to invite specified colleges and schools; however, the TACRAO VP for Recruitment Services will provide all host institutions with a contact list of TACRAO participants;

  • At each program, representatives should arrive and have displays set up prior to the announced opening and should remain for the duration of the event;

  • Displays should not exceed the assigned space or obstruct the view of another organization’s display;

  • All representatives must remain behind their tables or at the side of their tables at the event and will not impede the flow of traffic;

  • The use of non-information giveaways and activities are prohibited by TACRAO. This includes push-up/pull-up contests, food, audio systems with sound, virtual college tours, etc. No activities that distract from the educational environment or flow of students is permitted

  •  Refreshments are provided at the discretion and courtesy of the Host institution;

  •  Students may NOT complete applications for admission during college fair programs;

  • Representatives should never make disparaging comments or inappropriate comparisons regarding other institutions and understand that this is a serious violation of ethical standards of the profession;

  • Protect student information, treat it as confidential, and will not release it to a third party outside of the institution;

  • Institutions and organizations should RSVP to all invitations with either an acceptance or decline notification.

Institutions and organizations understand that it is their responsibility to train each of its representatives (staff, faculty, alumni, student ambassadors, recruiters, etc.) and will provide them with a copy of these standards. Membership in TACRAO or participation in a TACRAO sanctioned event includes acceptance of these standards. Violation of these standards should be reported to the college fair coordinator and to the TACRAO Vice President for Recruitment Services. The TACRAO Board of Directors will review any complaints and determine if further action is necessary.
